Grants Program Overview

The Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council offers several grant programs in its current fiscal year (July 1, 2023–June 30, 2024.) All of the grants are reviewed by the PLRAC Board of Directors.

Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council’s programs and activities are made possible by the voters of Minnesota thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund (Legacy Amendment) and the State’s general fund. In addition, we receive funds from the McKnight Foundation for our artist program.

Arts and Cultural Heritage Grant

For projects from non-profit tax-exempt 501c3 arts organizations or those using a fiscal sponsor that are sponsoring an arts activity in dance, literature, media arts, music, theater, visual arts, and folk and traditional art. Grants can range from $6,000–$9,000. More >>

Small Arts Project or School Arts Project Grant

Non-profit arts organizations, community groups, or public organizations producing or sponsoring arts activities for their community are eligible. Fundable activities include arts and music festivals, community bands and choirs, theatre events, dance performances, literary readings, instrumental and vocal music concerts, theater productions, visual art exhibitions and classes, etc.  School Arts Project Grants are for K–12 public and private schools to fund Artist residencies, live art performances, mini-workshops, or arts related field trips. Grants are for $2,500, and $4,000 for BIPOC events. More >>

Artist Grant

The Professional Mid-Career Artist Grant of $3,000 or the Artist Career Development Grant of $1,500 is for a specific project that contributes directly to their artistic growth and professional development in dance, literature, media arts, music, theater, visual art, folk and traditional art. Funds may be used for supplies, matting and framing, equipment, attending a workshop, studio time, studying with a mentor, or creative time. More > >

Youth Scholarship

These scholarships award students in grades 7–12 $300, and grades 3–6 $200. Students have the opportunity to study their chosen art with a practicing professional artist by taking lessons over a period of months. Scholarships can be for all Art disciplines. More >>

 

ONLINE APPLICATION  

Prairie Lakes uses an online grant process for all grant applications, contracts and final reports. First time users will be asked to register and create a grant account.
